A UK-based charity for women, Trevi, has announced that they have cut ties with the British comedian Russell Brand following allegations of sexual assault made against him.

The 48-year-old was recently accused of rape, sexual assault, and abuse by several women between the years of 2003 and 2013.

Featured in a joint investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches, the first allegations came from four women.

Despite Brand denying those claims, several other women have come forward since.

The charity confirmed in a statement on September 19 that it had ended its association with Russell Brand.

For the past 30 years, Trevi has focused on supporting women and children in South West England. The national award-winning charity provides safe and nurturing spaces for women in recovery to heal, grow, and thrive.

Brand became recognisable as a public activist and campaigner over the past few years. In 2022, Brand became aware of the Trevi charity after hearing stories about some of the mothers that they helped become drug-free.

Brand wanted to support Trevi’s cause as well as raise money through his own charity, the Stay Free Foundation, to support people through recovery from addiction and their mental health.

However, Trevi, among several other organisations, has parted ways with Brand as well as his Stay Free Foundation.

“We are deeply saddened and upset by the stories reported […] regarding Russell Brand,” said Trevi.

The statement continued: “As a charity whose values put women’s voices at the heart of what we do, we always prioritise supporting women affected by violence and abuse and empower them to live without violence and fear.”
